It's the story of my life...
but it is mine and that's all that matters.
Could this be the end?

The Russian Bear Slashes a Social Network.
The bubble in social networking has burst, decisively. LiveJournal, the San Francisco-based arm of Sup, a Russian Internet startup, has cut about 20 of 28 employees — and offered them no severance, we're told.

... The company's product managers and engineers were laid off, leaving only a handful of finance and operations workers — which speaks to a website to be left on life support. Matt Berardo, a Yahoo executive hired on last summer, is also believed to be gone.

... The brutal, abrupt cuts suggest something different: That Sup founder Andrew Paulson (above), who paid an estimated $30 million for LiveJournal a little over a year ago, has realized his expensive mistake in buying at the top of the bubble.

So, what exactly does this all mean? Are we about to loose LJ? In so many ways that would be tragic, but I don't really see me loosing sleep or shedding too many tears. I wouldn't imagine that they would pull the plug on LJ with it's huge following and so many paid accounts, but you never know in this "global economic downturn". But to be on the safe side, you might want to back up your journal--if you actually want to keep anything you've written since you started here on LJ. I use LJArchive but [info]cleolinda also recommends LJBook.

I suppose if worst comes to worst we could all head on over to Vox, the LJ knockoff started by Six Apart (the same people who started LJ then sold it) and create journals there. Thus making that one as popular or perhaps even more so then LJ which could ultimately lead us back eventually to where we are now concerning LJ. Of course Vox is a little confusing at first, but then again so was LJ. Who knows where this will all end up but in any case I am sure LJ will let us know. It's not going to just disappear one day out of the blue. We hope. But since I like to prepare for the worst and end up being surprised that the worst isn't actually coming/happening, I do have an account with Vox. I haven't spent any real time with it and it's new so it probably doesn't look too exciting yet.

On other news, my friend Denise went into labor yesterday and I haven't heard anything since yesterday afternoon so I am hoping things either went or are going well.

I have finished watching House, M.D. season one and am starting on season two. I do really enjoy this show and out of the blue it was suggested to me by someone that perhaps I should abandon my thoughts of working medically with animals and instead work medically with babies and young children since I seem to get along with them. No idea where that came from, just because I like watching a show (and managed to diagnose one patient before House did and that's only because they had rabies which I know a great deal about) doesn't mean I should change majors. Although I do like babies and young children, I do not always like the adults that come with said children and being a parent myself I do know how emotional they can be when their children are sick and are at hospitals. I don't want to deal with that part of the equation.

I am as usual, waiting with baited breath for school to start because I am finding myself incredibly bored! Hence the creation of the Vox journal and the much watching of House M.D. episodes. Although I still need to get my school books. I have the rest of this week to do so. Taking French, Archaeology, Cultural studies and Logic & Critical thinking. None which have anything to do with my major of Veterinary Technology. I have to do a few "fluff" credits to wait until next fall to start working on my major since I'm pretty much done with all the prerequisites required for my major. Thank God! I think.........

Pizza is done so I'm going to eat and watch some more tv/movies.
